The Steps Forward aims to create interactions through community social activities between local residents and immigrants in order to encourage mutual understanding of different perspectives which lead to increased respect amongst all. Thus creating an atmosphere of respect for the thoughts and opinions of all residents.
Community social activities include gatherings, talk/game shows, workshops, seminars idea pitches events, cultural food events, arts/crafts exhibitions, movies, visits (museums, factories, religious places etc, also depending on the interests of the group/individual.), lunch/dinner events and creating business linkages. Participation will enhance the understanding of the US culture.
This social club between the immigrants and US nationals will encourage and inspire adopting and understand different cultures and for immigrants it will also be an opportunity to embrace the US socio-culture in a way that they keep their identities while learning new culture and gradually assimilating.
The Step forward identifies the near absence of social-cultural and community connections between immigrants/refugees and US nationals and recognizes the innate desire to collaborate and create enriched cultural community lifestyles here in the US starting in Washtenaw county. The organization is with the aim of partnering with reputable non-profits on related programs and activities.
